Walking the Walk

We talk about walking the walk and talking the talk, but what does that really mean. The question I pose here is what do you really believe and what do you know for sure.

What I know for sure is that you have to be true to yourself. Every day. I invite you to explore your beliefs in an in depth manner. There are many roads to truth and one is no better than the other. For me, the road is Reiki. By the consistent study and practice of Reiki and the Reiki principles, the universe continues to show me who I really am. Sometimes these truths are revealed to me in an inspirational and enlightening manner and, more frequently, I am shown the way through my life experiences.

Last night, I attended a Firewalk event hosted by Soria Center for Education and Inspiration. What I learned as an assistant to the Director, Jennifer Sullivan, and as a participant in the event was invaluable. I learned that I am a good friend and that I have good friends. I also learned that if I trust in myself and always do the "next right thing", I can never go wrong.

Accompanied by a crew of traditional drummers, there was much ritual in the building and burning of the fire over several hours until it reached the right stage. Once perfect, the coals were spread out and became a shimmering liquid bed of energy. As we walked, faith became magic as we came out untarnished on the other side. In my excitement that the fire wasn't hot, I did, however, lose my focus when I got out of the fire and stepped on a burning ember outside of the fire bed. Oops! That's my analytical mind coming into play once again, (another life lesson revealed to me!). Healed with lavender and reiki it won't leave a scar but will remind me over the next few days that I need to stop thinking so much!

Earlier in the evening, Jennifer brought out a suitcase filled with broken liquor bottles. I watched (and analyzed) the participants and was able to understand the physics involved and I knew that, with the right mindset, I could walk across a field of broken glass. I did. It was a great experience.

Another firewalk is scheduled for next month in conjunction with The Institute for Therapeutic Massage. I'll be sending details in my next newsletter and posting it on this blog. Stay tuned for the next adventure!

August Morning in Patville

Listening to the sounds of workmen at my home is a comforting sound. In a few minutes I'll be merrily washing clothes in my new washing machine. With a few minutes to spare, I thought I'd jot a note about a topic that recently came up at the studio. I had a long conversation with another reiki practitioner where we discussed the differences in reiki traditions. The question became "Are there differences in the various traditions." I guess the easy answer could be "Yes" or "No", but, you know me, I never look for the easy answer. Although there are differences in practice, training, and attunement methods, we all work with the same energy. No matter how you translate the word reiki, we all agree that it is universal energy that we, the reiki practitioners, supply to the recipient by being a willing conduit for the energy. After the conversation, I called one of my reiki mentors. I said, "Here's all I need to know about reiki: I put my hands on a client with the intent to send reiki, and healing occurs." Simple. I urge the reiki community to put aside differences and look at what we have in common. We all do important and wonderful work and together we can build a healthy and whole Quad Cities by introducing EVERYONE to reiki.

A Perspective for These Times-come join us.

This Wednesday, March 23rd, a very special movie will be shown at The Reiki Studio's study group. We will be having a viewing of The Moses Code, a movie by Peace Troubadour James Twyman. I offer this movie in response to the chaos of our current global situation. So many of you are looking for answers in these times and, for me, this movie offers a solution and a perspective. Touted as the sequel to The Secret, this movie offers a more spiritual look at The Law of Attraction.

The study group meets on Wednesdays from 6-8 pm. This week, we welcome all reiki practitioners and others who are looking for answers. If you'd like to attend, please call, message, or email me to hold your seat. Seating is somewhat limited so reservations are required.

In 2008, I wrote about this movie and my time with James Twyman in another blog. To read more from my abandoned blog and to read William Blake's poem, "London", you can go to http://patvillenews.blogspot.com/ Below is the text from that blog:

The Moses Code
Wednesday, June 18, 2008

A few weeks ago, I spent the day with James Twyman. He's a filmmaker, whose most recent work is The Moses Code. James gave a concert on Friday night and an all day seminar on Saturday. One of the things about James is that he is the same up on the stage, as he is standing in line at Panera. I was prepared for what James was bringing to Moline. I had met him in February when he showed about 130 people an unfinished version of his film. He spent three hours with us that day.

After that, I spent about 6 weeks promoting a screening of the movie and participated in the worldwide peace meditation on Sunday using The Moses Code. Our intent was to manifest peace in Jerusalem.

The concept of The Moses Code is that there is a hidden code in the name of God as given to Moses: "I am that I am." That code is a comma. He is saying that it needs a comma in order for us to understand what God meant by telling Moses that his name was "I am that I am." What he meant, that may have gotten lost in translation, is "I am that, I am." This comma unlocks the code hidden in "I am that, I am", and by using it, we can manifest amazing things in our lives. It's a Law of Attraction thing, of course.

The real surprise of the weekend was Phil Gruber. Phil is an autoharp playing Kaballah scholar from New Jersey. As Phil interjected his wisdom at intervals on Saturday, I sat in awe. I've met a lot of smart guys before, but Phil has a way of taking the most complex concepts in religion and science and putting them into terms that bring a common understanding.

I mention Phil because he quoted the William Blake poem, London. He spoke about the "mind forg'd manacles" that limit us. If we can break free of the self-imposed limitations that bind us to lives of mediocrity, we are truly limitless. I look forward to seeing more of Phil; he has a lot to teach us all.

New! My blog for The Reiki Studio!

Welcome to The Reiki Studio website and blog!

I meet so many of you through my website so I am thrilled to be able to have a blog on the site where I can update everyone in real time and let you know what's going on at the studio and in the world of Reiki!

For those Iowan's among us, it has been a long, hard winter. Reiki is a healing practice filled with light and love. But even for the most optimistic reiki practitioner or client, this winter was a bear! Despite the weather, it was a busy winter at the studio. Reiki I and II classes were in such high demand that I didn't get a chance to post all of them on the website or in the papers. It was a joy to see new reiki practitioners emerge from class and start to work with reiki. The changes at times were subtle, some dramatic, but all amazing and wonderful.

In November and December, I held a four week Reiki III Practitioner class. It was a learning experience for both teacher and students as the students challenged me with in depth questions about reiki and quantum physics. I am fascinated with the study of metaphysics and this was a satisfying class for everyone.

Over the winter, I met four students who have been longtime practitioners of The Silva Method. I hope to learn more about this method in the days to come. It's funny how people with similar interests show up at the same place. It's a Law of Attraction thing, for sure. One student even suggested a study group for Silva practitioners. I will talk to her more about this and see where it takes us.

I think the most delightful thing that happened was hearing from someone I hadn't seen since I was 10 years old. This old Girl Scout friend found me on facebook and scheduled a reiki appointment with me while she was visiting family back in the Quad Cities over the holidays. She had just received her Level 2 Reiki training in Oklahoma and it was great to compare notes and see how they do things in another region of the country. At the end of the day, Reiki is the same wherever we go. It's all the same universal energy that's available to us all and reawakened for us by the attunement process. No matter who our reiki teacher was and no matter which "branch" of reiki our lineage denotes, we all share a common bond with Reiki.

Over the past month, I've been meeting individually with Reiki II graduates to teach and practice some Japanese Reiki techniques. If you haven't scheduled a time yet to meet with me, please contact me soon as I will be having a schedule change in about two weeks. I'd like to wrap this up before the first of April, if at all possible.

I want to thank the loyal reiki practitioners who helped keep the study group going all winter. We only had to cancel once because of weather. Now, as we await the snowbirds who are returning from the south and west and from their homes as they are unable to navigate at night in the winter, we are ready for a new season with new focus. This winter, we dug deep into the roots of reiki, learned some new techniques, and talked and talked and talked! The study group has been going since June of last year and I anticipate that it will continue for a long time to come. As new students come and others grow, there will always be something new to talk about in the world of reiki and energy.

Stay tuned, subscribe, and keep in touch. I'll blog as often as possible and try to give you insightful information about Reiki and the news from the studio.
